The Labour Note - Feb 2025

The Department of Employment and Labour has announced the adjustments to the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for 2025, as published in Government Gazette No. 52053 on 4 February 2025. These new wage rates will come into effect from 1 March 2025, and all employers are required to ensure compliance.

Contract Cleaning
In terms of contract cleaning the rate per hour is:
Area A – R31.69
Area B – As per Bargaining Council for Contract Cleaning Services Industry (BCCCI) rates
Area C (Nelspruit and White River) – R28.89.
Employer Obligations
Ensure all employee wages are adjusted to comply with the new rates by 1 March 2025.
Update payroll systems and communicate changes to employees in a timely manner.
Comply with the National Minimum Wage Act (9/2018) to avoid penalties for non-compliance.
If applicable, review and adjust sector-specific wage agreements in line with these updates.
Enforcement & Compliance
The Department of Employment and Labour will be monitoring compliance, and employers found to be in violation of the new wage structure may face fines and legal consequences.
