National Minimum Wage increase and Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) Threshold
On the 20 th and 21 st of February 2023, the Minister of Employment and Labour signed two Gazettes that released BCEA Threshold and the National Minimum wage for the coming year.
BCEA Threshold:
The new BCEA threshold is R241 110.59 per annum as from 1 March 2023. This means that any Employee earning above this threshold per annum or R20 092.549 per month is exempt from sections 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17(2) and 18(3) of the BCEA.
National Minimum Wage:
The following determinations were made for Employees under the National Minimum Wage which are effective 1 March 2023:
- Wage for normal Employees - R25.42 per hour,
- Domestic Employees - R25.42 per hour,
- Farm Workers - R25.42 per hour,
- Employees in expanded public works programmes - R13.97 per hour,
- Learnership allowances are as per schedule 2.
Contract Cleaning
In terms of contract cleaning:
- Area A - R27.97
- Area B - As per Bargaining Council for Contract Cleaning Services Industry (BCCCI) rates
- Area C (Nelspruit and White River) - R25.50
Wholesale and Retail:
